Anti-MUC16 (CA125) 4H11 is a structurally characterized recombinant monoclonal antibody targeting human MUC16, a large cell-surface mucin also widely known as CA125. Derived from the established 4H11 clone, this antibody provides researchers with a defined reagent for studies involving MUC16 expression, recognition and targeting.

A key feature of the 4H11 antibody is the availability of experimentally determined structural information. The structure of its single-chain variable fragment (scFv) has been resolved by X-ray crystallography at 2.36 Å resolution and is available in the Protein Data Bank as PDB 8VRR. This structural characterization makes the antibody particularly useful for research where detailed knowledge of the antibody variable region can support molecular modelling, antibody engineering, binding studies or the development of MUC16-targeting constructs.

MUC16 / CA125 as a Research Target

MUC16 is a high-molecular-weight transmembrane mucin expressed on the surface of several epithelial cell types. It is best known through its extracellular CA125 antigen, which has been extensively studied in cancer biology, particularly in ovarian and other epithelial malignancies. Beyond its use as a biomarker, MUC16 is of interest in research into cell-surface interactions, tumour biology and targeted therapeutic approaches.

The 4H11 clone therefore provides a useful research tool for investigations involving human MUC16 and CA125, including studies of MUC16-positive cells, antibody-target interactions and the development of experimental MUC16-targeting strategies.

Structurally Defined 4H11 Antibody

Availability of a high-resolution antibody structure can facilitate more detailed investigation than sequence information alone. Structural data for the 4H11 variable region may support computational analysis of antibody architecture, molecular docking, structure-guided modification and comparative antibody studies.

Because the antibody is produced recombinantly from the 4H11 clone, it also provides a defined and reproducible source of this established anti-MUC16 antibody for ongoing research projects.
