About the Target

Desmoglein-2 (DSG2) is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by the DSG2 gene and is part of the cadherin superfamily. DSG2 consists of extracellular cadherin domains (EC1-EC5) that are stabilized by calcium ions and intracellular domains that interact with key desmosomal proteins such as plakoglobin, plakophilin, and desmoplakin, anchoring desmosomes to intermediate filaments. Depending on the literature source, DSG2 may also be discussed as Desmoglein 2/DSG2.
