About the Target

Nestin, originally identified in neural stem cells, is an intermediate filament cytoskeletal protein found in various tissues and stem or progenitor cells, including pancreatic islets, skeletal muscle satellite cells, and the heart. It is also expressed in several malignancies, such as osteosarcoma, neuroblastoma, glioma, melanoma, pancreatic and prostate cancers, as well as in tumor vasculature. Depending on the literature source, NES may also be discussed as Nestin.

Reported cellular context includes intermediate filament, which can matter when signal is compared across treatments or changing cell states. Following NES across matched perturbations can help separate abundance effects from shifts in localization, complex assembly, or pathway state.
