About the Target
Originally discovered in rat adrenocortical tissues exposed to a high-salt diet, salt-inducible kinase 1 (SIK1) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the SNF1/AMPK family, capable of self-phosphorylation. An isoform of SIK1, SIK2, is specifically expressed in adipose tissues and is upregulated during adipocyte differentiation. Upon insulin stimulation, Akt2 phosphorylates SIK2 at Ser358, activating the kinase during post-fasting feeding.
